At the same time, Colombia stands out as a country renowned for its biodiversity, cultural richness and unique approaches to environmental conservation despite significant socio-political challenges. Colombia’s environmental rights, enshrined in its constitution, reflect a commitment to preserving nature for future generations. The country’s rich traditions of indigenous storytelling and community-led environmental action offer valuable lessons for the UK in fostering a deeper connection to nature.

As such, we will partner with a Colombia-based organisation known for its socially and environmentally engaged projects. Working with local communities, including indigenous groups, they highlight the importance of ecological interdependence, climate justice and cultural preservation. Their innovative storytelling projects have empowered local communities to take action on environmental issues and drive genuine change. 

Faxes on Loss, Faxes on Damage will focus on gathering and sharing stories from these communities in Colombia, allowing their voices to resonate in the UK. The project will explore the intersection of environmental storytelling, artistic interventions and cross-cultural exchange. These stories will be distributed through a network of fax machines – a sustainable communication tool that stands in contrast to energy-intensive digital infrastructure. The project will utilise the simplicity and low-carbon nature of fax technology to create a tangible, personal connection with the stories being shared, allowing them to be physically received and experienced by communities across the UK.
