Drawing learnings from our work to rewrite the story of dementia, we’re delighted to present to our community a unique opportunity to come together to learn the process of erasure poetry at this 2 hour workshop. Working with existing texts, erasure poetry is created by blacking out words to form new sentences, poems and stories from what remains. It allows us to play with words without the pressure of having to think of them from scratch. Instead, we can enjoy restructuring and playing with words which already exist to tell our own stories.
In this exciting new offering, we bring our many years’ worth of experience in delivering these workshops to you. Gather as a group of up to ten people and enjoy spending time together as you learn this new skill and work with us to unleash your inner literary giant, regardless of experience or level.
Cost does not include travel if outside of Edinburgh.

1 in 2 of us will be directly affected by dementia in our lifetimes; it is currently the leading cause of death in the UK. In spite of this, the general public are largely unaware of the dementia journey and how this can look for an individual following diagnosis.
Many people with dementia feel their voice is taken from them and their true lived experience is rarely recognised or appreciated amidst a plethora of sensationalised headlines, medical jargon or scaremongering.
Within this landscape, we collaborate with people with dementia and, together, play with words to give voice to their experience. We then share these words across our print publications, online features, newsletters and events – centring lived experience and using this to increase empathy and understanding in wider society too often presented with a flattened, singular narrative of dementia focussed on incapacity, loss and inability. Our work redresses this, unlocking and showcasing what people with dementia can do before sharing this to rewrite the narrative by centring lived experience.
At this pressing time, please support this vital project by purchasing from our shop or becoming a boom saloon member, with our thanks.
