Join the boom saloon community and support independent publishing that uses paper and ink to drive positive social change.

boom saloon is an independent publisher dedicated to democratising creativity for good. We publish books and magazines at the intersection of the arts and social change – creating opportunities for people facing complex personal challenges to share their perspectives on the world. We believe printed matter can do more than communicate an idea. It can challenge what we think we know, hold space for voices that are too often overlooked, connect people across experiences and inspire us to see the world differently.

Membership brings you closer to the people, publications, conversations and opportunities at the heart of boom saloon, while helping us create publishing projects that put those principles into practice. It is a way to participate in a community that values thoughtful publishing, creative practice and the exchange of ideas, while helping us create work that makes space for voices that deserve to be heard.

Words shared by our community

I would be delighted to sign up, so I did! Looking forward to seeing what projects emerge.

It’s my privilege to support your work. We share that reality that creative pursuits are a positive means to make progress, in all sorts of circumstances and ways.

The time spent working with Boom Saloon was for me priceless. The workshops felt a bit like “therapy” as we were encouraged to explore our familiar worlds and our thoughts and feelings in response to this. I was able in a safe and entirely supported atmosphere, to really examine some emotions I had kept hidden too long and was able to use these emotions to drive my enthusiasm and creativity to pen some ideas and writing. Dementia is often accompanied by the anxiety of what’s next and the frustration of what can no longer be done. The BOOM Saloon project brought me hope, laughter, renewed self-respect and a wonderful sense of collegiate working that, for me anyway, had been denied me since my diagnosis.

boom saloon are not only purveyors of high-quality art, but of inclusivity and community. With an unmistakably strong bond that binds the whole endeavour (and each contributor) together, there are few magazines like it. They are a pioneering publication and I can only see them ascending as time goes on. I am proud to be part of such an embracing and supportive family.

I have always been interested in the creative field, but found it really hard to have an opportunity to get involved. The atmosphere among all the young people in ‘Label Free’ was brilliant. We worked with a professional photographer and fashion designers! I have gained loads of helpful information in order for me to go on a jewellery design course. I now know my potential and my confidence has increased as well.

boom is a celebration of creativity without boundaries, without prescriptive ideas and wholly with the revolutionary concept of creating beautiful work that genuinely gives back

boom saloon is not only made by the carefully curated meetings of the best creative talent and work being produced globally, realised through clean graphic design and breathtaking photography, but it is made by the ethos behind all that the boom room do. The pages of boom saloon shout about incredible work by creatives from every corner of the world, no matter their background nor circumstance, and most importantly; belong to the reader. boom saloon does not belong to an elite few, nor to the team behind it, but to the readers who hold the magazine in their hand - a message encouraged by the editor as early in boom saloon's journey as issue 1. It feels accessible, diverse, and ultimately is a gift from the minds of boom, to anyone and everyone who is lucky enough to pick up a copy for themselves.

My experience of the first boom project was incredible! It was amazing to see such a diverse group of people from different backgrounds with different skill sets coming together to do what they love! There is an overwhelming sense of encouragement and support that boom projects provide which makes for such an incredibly comfortable, friendly and enjoyable experience! I feel so happy and lucky to have been a part of something that is so relevant and that is, at its core, good

I have found working with boom saloon over the last couple of years to be a deeply rewarding experience. The work they do to foster an inclusive and creative environment is extremely admirable. I am always happy to work with a company that is so willing to put people to the front of any project. boom saloon never create the feeling of hierarchy or elitism within their publication which is so refreshing and rare to see in this industry. The project that I worked on with them was to help refugees have entry to a field they would otherwise have no chance to participate in. This is really cool to see a new young company being a part of. I hope to continue to collaborate with boom saloon for years to come.

This sounds like a great idea, I'm happy to contribute [...] Exciting times (and I know a lot of hard work ) ahead for you and the good work of boom saloon.

Sounds good, sign me up! So cool how far Boom has come, you must be so proud!

I would be delighted to support your initiatives in any way I can. You are doing amazing work in a tough landscape. Hats off to you.

Relief and delight - have sub'd to your membership.

Through the workshops we were encouraged to look at things, including ourselves, in a totally different light. We could express ourselves, write about how we felt, what we saw, what we thought about things. Some of the workshops were very emotional while others inspired me to write what I consider to be very good poems by a total novice.

The creative writing had a surprising impact on Gerald. He had never been one for writing things down before – he’s artistic but not much for the written word. I think he surprised himself by how much he enjoyed it – and the writing he has produced has been enlightening. It has given him an outlet for how he feels, and he gets real pleasure from it. It can be quite emotional reading his inner emotions.

Unlike a transactional subscription, membership encourages deeper relations as we invite members to engage and shape the positive impacts we work to make on our world.

Membership with purpose

We believe creativity should not be limited to those who already have access to it. Alongside our independent publications and client work, we develop community-led publishing projects with people whose experiences and perspectives are too often overlooked or undervalued. These projects explore subjects including forced displacement, inequality, dementia, mental health, climate, place and identity – creating the conditions for people to tell their own stories, develop ideas and make something lasting, on their terms.

Membership helps us create these conditions.

Your support contributes to the time, resources and creative capacity required to develop community relationships, produce publications and create opportunities that would otherwise be difficult to fund.

Become part of the community, support us to drive more positive change.

Frequently asked questions

What is boom saloon?

boom saloon is an independent publisher dedicated to democratising creativity for good.

We publish books and magazines, both in-house and for clients, which explore the connection between the arts and social change. Profits from these fund further publications, made in collaboration with people facing complex personal challenges. In this way, we use paper and ink to drive positive social change.

Our work is powered by an international collective of members, who enjoy a series of discounts and events in thanks for their support. Most importantly, they make it possible for us to publish voices too often silenced and use paper and ink as a circular model for change.

What are the community projects?

These are an ongoing series of publications which inspire and empower people facing complex personal challenges. These people could be anyone we recognise creative potential in, no matter their background, education or level of experience. Sometimes our publications focus on a specific geography – such as North Edinburgh – sometimes a particular demography – such as people with dementia – but always work with those communities we believe to have talent and potential above and beyond what others may recognise.

How does membership support the community projects?

All profits from membership directly fund our community publications.

What are the benefits of membership?

In addition, our founding members can enjoy the opportunity to shape the future of boom saloon by informing the stories we share, events we run and projects we collaborate on – all whilst nurturing strong connections to a thriving global community of talents.

Can I further support the community projects?
