Wojtek Kutyla is a photographer seeking to understand the human condition. Drawing upon the teachings of John Daido Loori, he is as likely to cast the medium aside as to be caught camera in hand – consistently assessing and evaluating his space within the creative industry and decrypting the marks we leave on the landscape we exist within. Drawing inspiration from a letting go of the need to find a solution, the following series pulls together a selection of unseen works from his archive. Of these, he states: “We’re escaping the moment by dwelling on the past and the future. We can’t solve things without bringing our attention to the here and now, which – for many of us – is the hardest practice of all. Burdened by our grief and expectations, we’re stuck in the loop of running too fast to recognise what’s happening to us. We can look at every point of departure with anxiety; or we can choose to treat this as the chance to start anew.”
